Dream #136/7 Accidents Will Happen
Accidents are hardly ever accidental, over 99% are caused by human error.
Somebody had parked their delivery van behind me, almost blocking me in. However, I reckoned I had just enough room to squeeze past, if I backed up carefully.
It was not to be. When I had almost extricated myself from the predicament that had been forced on me, my wing mirror touched his. It was just a kiss, but it was enough.
There was no damage, not initially.
How was I to know, that his handbrake was not set, and I watched, unable to act, as it gently rolled backwards, across the road (which was mercifully free of traffic) to come to rest at the edge of a ditch.
I took a deep breath, hoping the driver would appear and rescue his vehicle, but my relief was short-lived.
Ever so slowly, the ground under one of his wheels began to give away, and like a tree being felled, or a building being demolished, the van toppled over, then rolled and rolled to finally lay upside down, it's underbelly exposed, and it's wheels pointing uselessly at the sky.
At this point, I woke up, once again telling myself that I must stop driving through gaps that leave no margin for error.
It was just after 2 am, so I made chamomile tea, got back into bed and listened to a story, which faded into oblivion before reaching the end.
Obviously, my subconscious had not finished with me. Maybe it was trying to tell me something, like: "don't push your luck sonny!"
The previous dream had made me late, and as I hurried to my destination, guiltily remembering the van in the ditch, I reached the place where the party was to be held.
In my car were boxes of things for the party, and I parked under the shelter of the ancient carriage entrance as it looked as if rain was coming, and it would give us shelter whilst unloading.
I got out, and hurried round to the front door of the grand house, but instead of seeing a hive of activity, there was only one person.
Don't worry – he said – nobody wants to come, so we won't be needing anything from you.
People ! I thought to myself. They will agree to anything, and then change their mind if something better comes along.
I went back to my car to find that somebody had parked their motorcycle right by the drivers door, and as I opened it, a gust of wind blew it out of my hand.
It swung out, and just touched the handlebars of the parked motorcycle, nudging it far enough for it to come off its side stand.
As it toppled over, I realised that things were getting a bit out of hand.
I turned my back before anything else went wrong, and started walking up the cobbled street towards the castle at the top of the hill....
6:30 am. Street lights have come back on. I shall get up, make a proper breakfast, and thank my lucky stars.
