Dream # 145

Walking home. Blazing sunlight.

I have forgotten what winter feels like.

Lulu and Gaby walk in front of me.

They are in deep conversation as they go for a swim in the sea.

I prefer to be alone.

Walk past my house and onto the great meadow of short cropped grass by the beach.

Everybody seems to be there, and I find a soft cool patch to lie on.

I wear nothing apart from bathing trunks. The sun is gently baking me, and I feel at peace with the world.

Life is wonderful.

One of a group of family members on my right asks me something, and I offer an explanation.

The conversation expands, and I walk with them to a small arcade of shops.

There is something important that I need to buy, and the father of the family insists on buying it for me.

I no longer feel embarrassed at being offered gifts.

They want to keep in touch, and ask for my telephone number.

I can't give them a card, because I'm not wearing trousers, and there are no pockets in my trunks.

He writes down the area code while asking for my number.

I struggle to remember my landline.

Then, I'm listening to myself chanting my mobile number, which wakes me up with a feeling of bemusement.

Get out of bed, switch on the kettle,

Open my door. Cold night air slaps my face as the cobbled gutter burbles, carrying stormwater down to the harbour.

Still taken from "Inspector Linley" TV series. Outside my front door.
