Weather Tales
A rainbow appeared yesterday as I looked out between the Cottages opposite my window.
This morning
Q's monument is shrouded in mist
The air is saturated
Like silent hooded monks
People pass, bent
As if praying to Helios
I have work to do
Peace comes upon completion
Not contemplation
Walking boots
Warm sweater
Woolly hat
Barber jacket.
I hear:
“It'll be good once we're out
It always is”
I know.
Walk towards the castle
Collect the mail
Check the plants
Check for damp
Check electrical circuits
Set the alarm
"Come on," she says
“Don't go back -
You know it'll be good"
My walk quickens
As does my pulse
Once again I feel alive.
Mizzle wets my face
We are alone
At the gap in the stone wall
The wind tugs
I lean into it.
Sea mist paints out the horizon
Seagulls play in the up-draft
Shouting to each other.
She gazes out to sea
My eyes follow -
Everywhere's trying to be
Like everywhere else
Dancing to the rhythm of the wind.
Then I see it
My heart leaps
A splash of white
Sails billowing
Riding white horses
Towards the harbour entrance
Admiration sweeps me along
For an instant
I’m transported
The surge under my feet
Wind on my back
The comforting pressure
From the rudder.
I take a photograph
For reminiscence
Each day has its magical moment
And I have my imaginary friend
To share them with.
