John Hill of Headland (Part I I)

I woke up this morning, thinking about John Hill's quotation "I can't wait to die, then I can tell God just what I think of him".

And it got me to thinking about how I love churches,  the music of JS Bach, and the blessings of this life.

When travelling, I love visiting museums, art galleries, temples and mosques. And remembering the sound of the Imam's call to prayer in the morning brings back happy memories.

While at home, there is the comforting sound of the church bells tolling the hours, the sound drifting across the river to my window. And the tranquility of the Norman Church by the stream.

But news is seldom good.

The world is in turmoil, and there has probably been a war somewhere on earth ever since mankind started breeding, or as the Bible says, going forth and multiplying.

It seems to me, that if God wanted mankind to suffer, it couldn't have done better than to tell the first man that a woman had been created out of his rib, that she is the cause of his misfortune, then tell various offspring to kill each other, and perform sacrifices.

And then to top it all, to send a prophet to proclaim one tribe to be the chosen one, and then another prophet to say that the first tribe had got it all wrong, and then a third prophet to say the others are infidels.

At least with football, boxing, fencing, and all the other sports that set people against each other, there are rules, and after it's all over the contestants can shake hands and be friends.
